Gaelic Language Bill

LAST UPDATED: 7th January 2008

This Bill is an extremely important building block for the future of the language and although it doesn't go far enough in the opinion of most, it's mere existance goes a long way towards revitalising interest and hope for Gaelic. In particular, the fact that Gaelic HAS NOT been given equal status to English has annoyed most Gaelic campaigners.

Many of the changes made since the draft Bill are due to the responses of over 3000 people and organisations voicing their concerns that the draft Bill had "no teeth". This site and it's forum members certainly contributed strongly during the consultation period which ended January 9th 2004.
